Ann Vastano

Ann Vastano was born in Bowmore on the Island of Islay in 1972. Ann went on to study at Grays School of Art Aberdeen. Having grown up, lived and worked in the Scottish Highlands, Ann has been constantly driven to recreate through her art work the dramatic land forms that surround her. Ann said that she was particularly captivated by the character filled bothies and cottages which lie strewn across the highland park; and because of the fickle weather fronts we experience here in the north, these muses are a constant challenge and inspiration.
Ann sketches outdoors, which allows her to immerse herself completely in the mood and atmosphere of the subject whilst capturing her perception of its essence. For the past few years Ann Vastano has worked mainly in pastels and acrylic. Her new work however has encompassed both these mediums alongside paper collage. Ann also said that she included, in some instances, the use of the written word, which she feels adds another dimension to the composition, opening the work up to further interpretation.
