artist biography

John R. Morris was born and educated in Retford, Nottinghamshire and followed an earlier career in journalism.

In 1968 he moved to Bingley, West Yorkshire and joined his father and brother helping to develop a small light engineering company for whom he eventually became General Manager.

Although John had not painted seriously for almost twenty years, in 1984 he decided to end his career in engineering and became a professional artist.

John who is self-taught, has become known for the fine accuracy to detail of his subjects which are principally birds, small mammals and foliage which is now making him a sought after illustrator. His distinctive style of painting is created by using a mixture of water-colours and gouache.

During the eighties and nineties he had several sell-out exhibitions and now his work can be found in private collections throughout this country, Europe and the United States of America.
