artist biography

Elaine Jeffreys was born in Newport, South Wales and was educated at Aberdeen High School, Folkestone Grammar School and The City of Worcester College of Education. She worked in South East England and the Midlands before returning to Wales in 1970 to teach.

Through the years she explored various aspects of two dimensional and three dimensional art and in 1976 she and her husband set up a Pottery, producing handthrown stoneware, examples of their work are in collections worldwide.

Since retiring from teaching she has concentrated on painting and is fascinated by the demands of traditional watercolour. She now works from her home studio on the beautiful Lleyn peninsula in North Wales. Her special interest lies in the atmospheric portrayal of the sea and landscapes but her work also includes portraiture and architectural subjects. She frequently features figures in her landscapes and her studies of children absorbed in activities on the seashore are particularly in demand.

She has exhibited at various galleries including the City of Salford Art Gallery, Oriel Plas Glyn, ECTARC Gallery Llangollen and has regular "one man" exhibitions held thrice yearly.

Recent Commissions include two nationally distributed calendars for 1999 & 2000

A selection of her work is available as Limited edition prints.
